    Hey all,
Just got my 4.5" SR22 and did some nice mods to it that you might enjoy seeing. I like the balance of the longer barrel over my lady friends 3.5".
1st was replacing the front sight with a HiViz fiber optic in red. Really makes a difference shooting outdoors and even in subdued lighting at an indoor range. Since I'm an old time fan of the classic red front/white outline rear sights guy, I wanted a W/O blade for the rear. Not a big fan of 3-dot systems. Too much to align and concentrate on.The SR22 rear blade is a bit different in size and shape to their W/O blades, but still under the same concept. I ordered a W/O blade and had to do some pretty precision filing, but it turned out very nice. In fact, I made 5 of these. One for mine and as a spare, one for my lady friends, one I sold to a guy at the range and the 5th I might put up for sale here if someone is interested. Cutting the bottom off the higher Red Hawk blade and then filing it to size and putting the sharp edge for the windage screw turned out good. Very distinct clicks.
2nd mod was installing a Danco #5 O-ring on the recoil spring to dampen the impact of the slide on the take down latch. The #5(1/16") works better than the thicker #78(3/32") on being able to install the slide. The jury is still out on slide impact to the latch, but it didn't affect functioning at all. 10 for $3 at Lowes.
3rd was installing Tandemkross +5 magazine bumpers to increase capacity to 15. I know I'd loose 'last shot hold open', but I count my shots and don't have to worry about slide wear from the slide stop pressure and pin wear on those areas of the slide, even though I de-burred and polished the slide stop.
4th was polishing the extractor area that contacts the slot in the barrel. The MIM stainless extractor looked a little rough on that surface, so a light Dremel buffing smoothed it to a mirror finish.
Well, I like it and it shoots like a dream eating everything from Rem Golden bulk 36gr, Win Sup-X 36 & 40gr, CCI Mini Mags 36 & 40gr. I was reading about your Tandemkross +5 magazine bumpers and wanted to share what I did with my 4.5". I also added the Galloway follower that adds 3 rounds the the clip. By using both mods the clip holds 15 rounds plus the slide holds open on the last round. The slide acctualy catches on the Galloway follower to hold open. The one downside is that the only way to release the slide is to push down on the follower with a finger or remove the clip. I haven't decided if I'm going to stay with this or just the Tandemkross +5.
