Some of you owners of Ruger Mark III pistols may be aware of this situation, if so, then this info is directed to those who may not be. For a spate of time during the initial flurry when Ruger was involved with getting "newly manufactured" Ruger Mark III's out to distributors, they apparently ran short of the normal firing pin stop pins. Many of the smaller parts that Ruger uses are not made in-house but farmed out to local manufacturers.
When you have the bolt removed from your Ruger Mark III, check the firing pin stop pin, first, to see if it didn't fall out tnad then to see if it is the solid style pin. For a substitute of the solid pins, Ruger used a hollow roll-pin that was short on each end and has a gap in the longitudinal length of said pin. Not a good thing! :

The pin in the bolt is what you want to see. The fugly pin is NOT what you want to find in your bolt. The pin pictured has collapsed from hits by the much harder firing pin, to the point where the slot closed up allowing the firing to put a nasty ding in the breech face:

These dings are not easily removed, or repaired. Best is to locate the wrong pin and replace it ASAP.
