I live in Iowa were they are now allowing use of a rifle to get a deer. It has to be a (straight cartridge) and I would prefer lever action.
Yall got any budget friendly thoughts on what would work?
I'm a AR15/AK47 for fun shooter so this whole venture is pretty new to me. I did slug hunt once but it didnt thrill me.

Marlin 336 30-30 w/ 170gr ammo would be perfect. IMHO

Is a 30-30 a straight cartridge? I took that to mean a revolver cartridge or non necked down cartridge to limit its range in populated areas. according to this there aren't many choices.

Doing a little more research on this you are correct. 30-30 does not qualify. Prolly have to go to 45-70 or .357.

Pretty pricey, but Henry makes a nice lever action. If it has to be straight walled I'd get .44 magnum.

Marlin makes a .44 magnum too. It's a little less. I don't think Marlin is as good a product since Remington bought them.

    Yes, a 30-30 is a necked cartridge.

Around here high power magnum calibers are common. Still a lot of 30-30, 30-06, 308, 270, 243 also. Farms are becoming housing developments quickly though so I can see restrictions in the future.
