I acquired a High Standard, Double Nine, Model W-104 yesterday. The Double Nine designated her as being a Double Action Revolver, having a 9 round 22LR Cylinder. She has an aluminum frame, with the Long horn Skull stamped in the barrel, a western style hammer, and genuine Mother of Plastic White Grips. In 1962 High Standard produced 1,285,049 of these.
You could have walked into a Sear Store and bought it as a J.C. Higgins Ranger Model 90 and later on as a Ranger De Luxe. Western Auto and Kroydon Arms also sold these Western Style Revolvers.
A friend of mine bought it from an Officer up at Fort Bragg in 1970. He’s owned in for 42 years. It’s in great shape and I’ve actually fired it a couple of time on the range. His wife developed a hankering for a NAA Black Widow 22 Magnum and since he knew I had one sitting in the safe suggested a trade.
There’s a little cylinder ring and a few odd spots but other than that she’s in great shape.

Gorgeous! Fun to shoot too I'll bet. Man, I'd love to see your collection! Yogi![]()

My brother in law had one of those a few years ago and it was one heck of a shooter. I don't know if he still has it or not.

I got a good deal on this one. They're not a high dollar collectable item but this one is a shooter and I have loads of information on it. The Owner's Instruction is available on line. Not bad for a 50 Year old revolver.
Beautiful BG!! Those grips are gorgeous man. Thanks for the share..![]()
Very nice...... thanks for sharing it with us.![]()
Nice revolver! High Standard revolvers seem to be steadily increasing in value...and they are quite nice. I have a Sentinel snubbie .22 and really like it. I'd definitely like to add a Double Nine to my collection one of these days.
She's getting a range trip today. The previous owner called and we are rolling out that way. Thursday's have beome Range Trip Day. Less people and no rush.
5:30 update. Put 100 rds through it. No problems. 100 rd through the Mosquito. No problems there either. Tacos and Burritos afterwards, yummy.
Man, I'm jealous! I didn't get to go to the range OR eat delicious Mexican food today. No fair.
