    Good find, pennsy.

So I called Kentucky Gun Company to find out what the deal was with the Customs. I asked them specifically whether Ruger was making them again. Apparently, they are . . . but under a different model number. The old model number was 3740. The new model number is 3755. What if any differences may exist between these two model numbers and how long the 3755 will remain in production is unknown to me. But I guess the demand for Customs was big enough for Ruger to start manufacturing them again. Smart move on Ruger's part, I'd say.

Get 'em while you can. :-)

I saw that last week and almost pulled the trigger. I think shipping is about $15 and my LGS charges $30 to transfer so I held off.

According to Kentucky Gun Company's website, the Custom qualifies for free shipping. Insurance is extra, but some people don't seem to understand that insurance doesn't protect the buyer . . . it protects the seller. The seller is responsible for making sure that the shipment is delivered successfully per the buyer's instructions. If a buyer buys insurance, they're insuring it on behalf of the seller . . . not themselves.

    Thanks for that info.

Model 3755 is not listed on Ruger's website and Gallery of Guns has them listed as "allocated".

Well obviously somebody needs to call Ruger and get the straight scoop, Ed. I just tried calling them but their CS department is down for the next 30 minutes. I'll stay on it until I get an answer unless somebody beats me to it . . . hint, hint! :-)

By the way, I ALWAYS use a credit card to make online purchases. I even use a credit card to make ALL of my PayPal purchases. It's the buyer's credit card company that protects the buyer from shipment failures, not the seller.

All right. I'll let you know what I find out . . .

While I'm waiting for Ruger's CS department to get back to work, I contacted Gallery of Guns and asked them about the 3755. They said the 3755 is in current production and they've placed several orders for them with Ruger. I asked what "allocated" means. The rep I spoke to said it means that individuals can't purchase them directly from Gallery of Guns. Orders have to be placed through dealers affiliated with Gallery of Guns. I also asked if there were any differences between the 3740 and the 3755. The rep I spoke said he couldn't see any obvious differences between them, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

OK. Here's the skinny from Ruger. The difference between the 3740 and the 3755 is cosmetic only. Functionally they are the same exact pistol. The 3755 is a distributor exclusive. As long as distributors keep ordering them, Ruger will keep making them. Unlike the 3740, however, the rep I spoke to does not anticipate that the 3755 will ever go into regular production.

    Hope that helps!

PS: During our conversation, the Ruger rep and I discussed the wisdom of carrying the LCP II with a round in the chamber. She was extremely candid with her remarks. Without going into detail, I can report that her comments would not gladden the hearts of those who have decided to do that.
