LCP stands for "Lightweight Compact Pistol". Sometimes affectionately referred to as "Elsie Pea".
There seems to be some confusion regarding the various generations of the LCP.
I still see people on this, and other forums referring to the Gen 2, when they really mean the LCP II, or vice versa.
    * I know you long time LCP guys don't need this, but for some of the folks new to the Great LCP -
here's my attempt to clarify and point out the differences.

The original, 1st generation LCP was released in 2008. Discontinued.

The LCP "Gen 2", - the 2nd generation, was released in 2013. Still in production as of 2017.
The Gen 2 has more prominent sights and a shortened trigger pull than the Gen 1.
Gen 2's can be identified by the serial number, which does NOT have the "dash" that was used in the serial numbers of first generation LCPs.
    ex. Gen 1: "371-xxxxx", Gen 2: "372xxxxx"

The LCP Custom was released in 2015. It is easily recognized by its bright red skeletonized trigger, polished blued slide and raised sights.
With the release of the LCP II, the Custom is being discontinued.

The LCP II was released in 2016. Some of the "improvements", (Arguably...) are a thicker, redesigned grip/frame, slide serrations diagonally cut with a wider gap, sights are raised much higher than the original LCP, the trigger guard is larger and more squared off, "Last Shot Hold Open" (with new mags), improved trigger - short, crisp, "single action", lighter pull ~ 5.5 pounds. The new trigger also has a trigger blade safety.

Note that the LCP II name is identified with a Roman Numeral II (two capital letter I's) and not a "2" or a "11".

    NOTE:

The "Generation 1" and "Generation 2" are identifiers which are NOT used by Ruger. They were applied by folks on various forums. They are often abbreviated as "Gen 1" and "Gen 2".
