Geez, and I was going to go there tomorrow morning...
Nothing official yet, word is that a guy shot himself in the
    chest, on purpose. This just happened about an hour ago;
should find out some details soon. It's really a great range,
I'm there at least every other week; what a bummer.

Just found out the guy didn't make it; police are
trying to determine if it was an accident or suicide.

It has happened twice here in Florida over the past couple of weeks. In one case a mom took her life and her son's. Wow!

I think if you want to take your own life you should be able to without making it tramatic or messy for anyone else or their property, Too bad you can only be arrested for attempted suicide. Now the range has a bad name a bloody mess and will probably forfit the pistol.

Still no mention of caliber or weapon; unconfirmed
sources (sorry; I'm in the tv business) say that the
range officer was nearby, and it happened while his
back was turned to the subject/victim. The police
still haven't release a name or whether it was an
accident or suicide; apparently everyone present at
the time says suicide. Bad day for a top-notch range
    run by good folks.

please explain why the range would now get a bad name. they had NOTHING to do with the incident. When you go to are range you sign disclaimers and the range officer cannot be expected to be a babysitter. he has a job to do and can't be monitoring actions of everyone at the same time. this information should be made public in every incident that is published anout such shootings. I'm sorry that I have a horrible sense of humor but that's traditionally the way a woman would commit suicide, men traditionally shoot themselves in the head, something to do with the romantic effect. A real man shoots himself three or four times in the back and then twice in the head.

Honestly though I do feel sorry for any loved ones he left behind, that is a harsh way to go.
You can have it , just let me give you the ammo first!!

...+1, finn. Unfortunately, the anti-gun crowd are vultures overhead waiting for a gun related incident, accidental or intentional, so they can begin yet another feeding frenzy. They have no clue as to rational thinking, as it's simply not in their demeanor. Also, a range officer couldn't stop a suicide in most cases, as a normal acting shooter can point and shoot at himself/herself in a split second. What would the RO do anyway if something sus*picious developed quickly while observing? It's a tough call.
