cutting a kahr ported barrel

my neighbor has a 4" ported polygonal barrel he got for christmas for his p9 that he wants to sell and will sell to me for $50. i really don't want a ported barrell for my cw9 but if it could be cut down and re-crowned i would be interested. i put it in my cw9 and it shoots great. my question is will it continue to be as accurate if i have a gunsmith cut the port off and crown it? i have no problem with the stock rifled barrel i have now but this poly barrel does seem to hold tighter groups. what do you guys think?

Compare your original barrel to the ported one. Is there enough stock to be able to cut it down to the proper length? Is the diameter of the barrel identical to yours at the muzzle end (where it would be trimmed to)? If the answer to both questions is yes, the result of your intended mod would really depend on the skill of the gunsmith involved and the tooling that he/she has available. It's entirely possible that the barrel could be ruined by the process and it also could turn out the way you envision it.

the barrel is sold on kahr's site and is for p9/cw9 and it fits and shoots perfect. there is plenty of stock to cut it down. in fact it seems as though you could leave 1/4" sticking out past the slide.
