Let me try this again; it helps to have a topic. I have reloaded .300 Win mag and .223 for almost 30 years, but I haven't reloaded any pistol ammo. Up until recently it was cheap enough to buy new pistol ammo and it's not like reloading the .300 Win mag trying to get bullet holes to touch one another at 100 yds. I would like to hear from some of you seasoned reloaders on what powder works best for the .380.

John's (MrKTI) earlier post re-instated below, we had a minor glitch, the Mods.

"You are about to get 234 responses saying W231 is the hot set up ... and one person (me) saying try True Blue. I bought some to load 5.7x28, and decided not to load them, so I have some True Blue laying around.

Not the best choice, but I just hate being the only one ...

    MIght be more available too.

True Blue is a slower powder than W231, and I am now using is for .380 up thru .357. Seems the recoil is more gentle but that's probably just me.

TB is a ball powder like w231 so meters very well.

Just tossing out a contrarian point of view ..."

I have found that Alliiant's Power Pistol powder allows me to emulate factory loads such as Cor-Bon in 9mm and .380 cartridges. Most other powders I've tried including 231 and others don't quite seem to match up in the small cases.

I suggest that you follow the reloading information from the bullet manufacturers and/or Alliant for the specifics involving bullet type/weight/style, powder load, and overall length.

I have reloaded .380 with the following components:
    100 grn FMJ [Berrys] Bullet
    3.5 grns Unique Powder
    Remington Small Pistol Primer
Not to hot & not to cold

(Note: With regard to posted reloading data, mistakes, typos, etc. happen. Always check any poster's load data with a reputable reloading manual from Speer, Hornady, Sierra, Lyman, etc. before duplicating to ensure it is within safe limits. And we recommend you begin with the manual's suggested starting load and work your way up.)

So far one for True Blue, one for Unique, one for Power Pistol. I'll keep reading and really appreciate the recommendations.

    Thanks!

I use AA#2 with 95 gr. lead round nose "MISSOURI" bullets with a lite load that is fun to shoot and works the slide!!!! That is the other beauty of reloading, not hurting your hand with hot loads!!! The best reason to reload is you have something to shoot even when there is no ammo to buy! George
